Varun Charavarthy opened up about his viral coffee mug trophy post after India won the Asia Cup 2025 in UAE. India defeated Pakistan in a thriller to win the title, but controversy erupted afterwards when the Indian players refused to receive the trophy from PCB chairman and ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi. The trophy was then taken away and The Indian team was forced to celebrate without him.
However, Indian players decided to troll Naqvi with their posts and Chakravarthy went the extra mile. In the hilarious post, the mysterious spinner was seen waking up to a mug of coffee. Chakravarthy revealed at the Breakfast of Champions that he knew India would win the title and planned to wake up next to the trophy. But since the team didn’t win the title that day, they decided to use a coffee mug instead.
“I knew we were going to win. When we won the second game, I knew if we met them in the final, we were going to win. So I had everything planned. I planned to sleep and take a picture with the cup next to me. But after the game, there was nothing next to me. There was only a cup of coffee, so I went for it,” said Chakravarthy.
Spiner also said that he was confident that India would win the Asia Cup and asserted that even if the trophy is taken away, there will always be champions.
“I knew we would win all the matches. We are the number one team in the world. The cup may be taken away from us but we are the champions,” said Chakravarthy.
Chakravarthy on its nature
Chakravarthy said he has always been an introvert and has a bit of dark humor in his arsenal.
“I’ve always been an introvert. I’m not like Arshdeep or Nayar, who are open and can crack jokes. I have a bit of dark humour. After training, I go to my room to stay away from cricket, I keep writing. I love writing. It brings out what’s outside of me and helps me visualize it. By the end, I completely forgot that I was playing a Chakra match the next day.
