The University of Calicut allowed its associated universities to offer smaller (subsidiaries) courses from disciplines associated with the main (main) courses within the four -year university program (FYUGP). The order for this purpose was issued by Vice -President 11 September on the recommendation of the Academic Control Committee.
The order states that universities can offer small courses from allied disciplines, regardless of whether they are offered as the main programs in institutions. In such cases, it is ensured that the faculty of the department concerned has the required qualifications prescribed for teaching allied disciplines.
Students who follow the trade can opt for smaller courses in the management discipline. The sales department are entitled to offer small courses included in the curriculum prepared by the Board of Directors for Management (Higher Courses), even for students who follow the business as their main discipline. Afsal-ul-ulama students can opt for small courses from Arabic or functional Arabic; Functional English can opt for smaller English courses and vice versa; Functional Hindi can opt for smaller Hindi courses and vice versa; And students of travel and tourism can opt for smaller courses from hotel administration and vice versa.
At universities offering fewer programs, students can choose small courses from English, other languages and main disciplines (other than their own) offered by the university, except the above provision. For example, at a university offering BA English, BSC and BCOM mathematics can be selected from the baskets of English, Malayalam, Hindi, Arabic, Sanscrit and other languages; Like mathematics, trade, functional English, functional Hindi, statistics and management.
At universities that offer only the BA program in Afsal-uloma, minors can be offered from baskets of English, functional English, Hindi/functional Hindi, Malaysla and Arabic/Functional Arabic. At universities that offer a single program such as BA music, students can choose minors from English and other languages. Autonomous universities and associated self -phinance universities may appoint a qualified faculty to offer minors that are beneficial to students.
The university previously decided not to allow students to choose small courses from subjects related to their main courses. Teachers associated with the Congress and the Indian Union of the Muslim League raised concern and claimed that it would force students to choose courses they might not want to study. The problem was also raised on multiple forums, including the Senate. Later, a committee was created to deal with these fears.
