Confrontation at Microsoft headquarters
In April Agrawal – the then engineer in the AI division of Microsoft – faced current and former CEOs of Satya Nadella, Steve Ballmer and Bill Gates at his headquarters in Washington. She accused them of using Microsoft technology to support what she described as “genocide in the Gaza Strip”.
After the confrontation of Agrawal, he submitted a strongly formulated resignation letter, the announcement of its last day will be 11 April, just a few days after the incident. In her letter, she wrote that she could no longer work for a company that, in her opinion, agreed with the oppressors rather than standing in solidarity with the oppressed.
Agrawal also criticized Microsoft reported contract with the Ministry of Defense of $ 133 million and claimed that the AI and Azure Cloud Services directly allow military actions against Palestinians.
“Microsoft Cloud and AI are making the Israeli army more fatal and destructive in Gaza,” she wrote shortly after the CEO on stage in an e-mail throughout the company.
Agrawal joined Microsoft in September 2023 after more than three years in Amazon and worked in the AI division.
After the April protest, Microsoft rejected two employees – including Agrawal – who disrupted the 50th anniversary of the company. Society has described its actions as “hostile, unconvincing and very inappropriate”.
