The Vanimel Gram Panchayat authorities urged the district administration to review the recent ban on various construction activities in three departments below Panchayat. The restriction was followed by an official session chaired by the district collector Snehil Kumar Singh to assess the impact of Villangad, based on a recent field study.
President Grama Panchayat P. Suuyya said that the ban will prevent the completion of several schemes of housing and road development in areas that were at least influenced by land landslides. She said.
Mrs. Suuyya also pointed out that the ban was imposed by the district administration without waiting for the ongoing field study by a panel of an expert. “Our request is to postpone such hasty regulations until the final report is submitted. In addition, the latest order was accepted without looking for the opinion of the elected representatives,” she added.
A local member of the vanimel body claimed that an unexpected step could disrupt several works previously listed within the Mahatma Gandhi employment system. “We are equally concerned about the timely completion of various rural road projects,” he said.
Meanwhile, sources in the revenue department stated that the prohibition was based on scientific findings and cannot be canceled only on the basis of local fears. They added that the complaint submitted by the Panchayat authorities on the wing of the catastrophe management would be notified by higher officials for appropriate measures.
