Van overturns after burst tire, three killed, five injured in East Godavari

Three laborers were killed and five others, including the driver, were seriously injured when the van they were traveling in overturned after a tire burst on a national highway near Vadisaleru village in East Godavari district in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The ages of the three deceased were under 30, police said.

The incident took place when the eight laborers were returning from Guntur district where they had gone for agricultural work.

“The rear tire of the van reportedly burst, causing the vehicle to overturn on the highway. The condition of one of the five injured is said to be critical,” Rangampet sub-inspector S Siva Prasad said. The injured are being treated at the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Rajamahendravaram.

Autopsies on all three have been completed. The police have registered a case and the investigation is ongoing.
