Vaishnavi Sharma reveals the story behind her special wicket celebration with Harmanpreet Kaur. During the fourth women’s T20I between India and Sri Lanka on Sunday, December 28, the left-arm spinner and India captain were seen breaking into a choreographed celebration.
The pair clapped their hands, exchanged fist pumps, made a fleeting hand gesture, and then embraced warmly. Vaishnavi explained that the celebration was planned in advance. Before the third T20I, she and Harmanpreet were part of the team where they discussed doing something unique to mark her wickets.

Vaishnavi asked Harmanpreet if she could run to her in a certain way after taking the wicket and the skipper readily agreed. However, Vaishnavi did not pick up a wicket in that game and the opportunity to stage a celebration finally came in the fourth T20I.
“Before we went on the field, we were all standing outside in a huddle and thought we should do something fun. We decided that if we took a wicket, we’d try a new kind of celebration. During that discussion, I told Harry di that when I get a wicket, I’m going to celebrate like this. She agreed and said, ‘Yes, let’s do it ladies,'” Vaishnavi said in a video at CIBC.
“We planned it for the third match but I didn’t get any wickets so it didn’t happen. In the fourth match when I finally took wickets, the celebration was complete,” Vaishnavi added.
VAISHNAVI SHARMA IS RISING
Vaishnavi enjoyed an excellent streak and finished as the highest wicket-taker along with Deepti Sharma, Shree Charani and Kavisha Dilhari. The left-arm spinner took five wickets in five matches at an economy rate of 6.26, with her best figures of 2 for 24 in four overs coming in the fourth T20I.
Vaishnavi also played a key role in India’s U-20 Women’s World Cup triumph in early February, a performance that paved the way for her first call-up to the senior national team.
