Vaibhav Suryavanshi continued his rapid rise in age-group cricket with a thunderous knock in the Under-19 Asia Cup that underlined his rising stature with the bat. The young opener lit up the Sevens Stadium in Dubai on Tuesday, December 16, smashing a 25-ball fifty against Malaysia in an impressive display of fearless stroke play.
Suryavanshi reached his half-century at a breathtaking pace, attacking the Malaysian bowlers and early setting the tone for India. His innings, studded with five fours and three towering sixes, guided India to an impressive 85 runs in the over, despite the early losses of Ayush Mhatre and Vihaan Malhotra.
The left-hander’s stay ended shortly after his milestone when he was dismissed by left-arm pacer Muhammad Akram as India settled strongly at 87 for three in 10.3 overs. Even so, Suryavanshi’s explosive knock once again highlighted his ability to command attacks and deliver impressive performances on the big stage.
VAIBHAV SURYAVANSHI STILL GLOWS
Suryavanshi emerged as one of India’s standout performers at the Under-19 Asia Cup in Dubai, making a big impact with his bat. In India’s opening match against UAE, the 14-year-old produced a a breathtaking innings of 171 off just 95 ballslaced with 14 sixes and nine fours.
His explosive knock propelled India to a mammoth 433 for six – the highest total in the history of the Under-19 Asia Cup – and laid the foundation for an impressive 234-run victory over the UAE. The 171 ranks among the highest individual scores by an Indian in Youth ODIs, while his 14 sixes set a new tournament record at the U19 level.
Against Pakistan U19 in the following match, Suryavanshi endured a rare failure with the bat, managing just five runs. However, he made up for it with his all-round contribution, taking his first Youth ODI wicket and taking a superb catch in the field.
Overall, Suryavanshi’s performances in the tournament highlighted his exceptional power-hitting and match-winning potential, reinforcing his rising stature in youth cricket.
