Just a day after England’s Jos Buttler was impressed by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s talent, two-time World Cup winner former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh couldn’t help but heap praise on the 15-year-old’s skills. After bursting onto the scene in IPL 2025 with his 35-ball hundred, Sooryavanshi was unstoppable from there.
Be it ODIs or Tests or T20Is for India U19, Sooryavanshi has scored hundreds in every country he has visited in the last year. Impressed by Sooryavanshi’s bat speed, the Bihar youngster’s fearless approach caught the attention of Yuvraj, who was also a southpaw like the youngster.
“Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is doing very well. Vaibhav has amazing bat speed. His bat speed is better than mine. I have seen very few people with that kind of bat speed,” he said in a podcast with Sportstak. “The best thing about him is his bat speed, it doesn’t just go in one direction.
“They (Gujarat Titans) dropped him in the first match. But after he hit those sixes on the offside in good deliveries, that was the quality. He is not just a one-dimensional player. His power shots are all around the corner,” said Yuvraj, describing Sooryavanshi’s pure talent.
“There is no vacancy” – Yuvraj Singh
With age on his side, Yuvraj felt that Sooryavanshi will improve as hh will play more matches in the coming days. “I feel at a young age, he has a lot of skills. Obviously, the more matches he plays, with failures and successes, he will become a better batsman,” added Yuvraj.
After his stellar run last year, several former cricketers even opined that he is fast-tracking Sooryavanshi into the senior national side. When asked about the same, Yuvraj sounded confident about the idea but remained non-committal about the timing.
With the likes of Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill to name a few at the top of the order, getting a place in the Indian team is nothing short of a miracle. “Most people know about Vaibhav that he will play for India.
“There is no vacancy in the Indian T20I team at the moment. There is a lot of competition. I feel he will play sooner or later. When will he play is the question. When the selectors feel he is ready, they will give him a chance,” concluded Yuvraj.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in IPL 2026
After scoring 252 runs in IPL 2025, Sooryavanshi started his 2026 season where he left off. Chasing a lower total for Rajasthan Royals against Chennai Super Kings, Sooryavanshi smashed a 15-ball half-century to pave the way for his team to an eight-wicket victory.
Against Gujarat Titans on Saturday, Sooryavanshi again started in the same vein, racing for 31 runs off just 18 balls. However, he was dismissed by Rashid Khan as Sooryavanshi smashed five fours and a six during his stay.
