Vaibhav Sooryavanshi reminds Glenna McGrath of Brian Lara and Garry Sobers
Rajasthan Royals batsman Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (Image: CHENNAI: Australian pace legend Glenn McGrath has heaped praise on teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, comparing his batting style to some of the biggest names in cricket. McGrath, who is director of coaching at the MRF Pace Foundation, said Sooryavanshi’s fearless approach and distinctive backlift reminded him more of West Indies legends Brian Lara and Garry Sobers.“You probably look at someone like Brian Lara with that back lift. You look back and Garry Sobers is the next one that comes to mind,” McGrath said on the sidelines of training.McGrath admitted he was impressed with the youngster’s IPL exploits. “He was unbelievable. Normally players have more fours than sixes, but he had 72 sixes and 63 fours. He’s obviously a powerful hitter and he’s definitely changed the game.” “They don’t have any fear, do they? They don’t care if it’s Pat Cummins bowling. If it’s there, they just hit it,” the former Australian added. However, McGrath said he would like to see Sooryavanshi perform outside the subcontinent. “If he goes to play in England or Australia, I wonder how he does there. McGrath also praised MRF Pace Foundation products Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain, both of whom have made significant contributions for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL.
