The Rajasthan Royals opener broke the 14-year-old record held by Chris Gayle during the IPL 2026 Eliminator clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad in New Chandigarh. Playing in the biggest match of Rajasthan’s season, Sooryavanshi once again put up a breathtaking display of fearless batting. The teenage sensation cruised to his half-century in just 16 balls to become the batsman with the most sixes ever in a single IPL season. Most sixes in an IPL season:
- 61* – Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (2026)
- 59 – Chris Gayle (2012)
- 52 – Andre Russell (2019)
- 51 – Chris Gayle (2013)
- 45 – Jos Buttler (2022)
The record has remained intact since Gayle’s iconic campaign in 2012, but Sooryavanshi has now surpassed the legendary power-hitter at just 15 years old. The knocking full of milestones didn’t stop there. Sooryavanshi also became the youngest player ever to complete 600 runs in a single IPL season, breaking the previous record held by Rishabh Pant, who achieved the feat for Delhi Daredevils in 2018. More remarkably, before IPL 2026, no batsman in the tournament’s history had scored 550 or more runs in a season while striking over 200. Sooryavanshi has now become the first player to achieve this extraordinary combination of volume and explosiveness. The historic innings came in a high-pressure Eliminator at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium after SRH skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bowl first. While Rajasthan entered the contest under pressure after losing twice to Hyderabad earlier in the season, Sooryavanshi showed no signs of nervousness as he dismantled SRH’s attack right from the start. The knock further cemented his status as the breakout superstar of IPL 2026 and one of the most extraordinary teenage talents the tournament has ever seen.
