The Ernaculam Vigilance unit and the anti -corruption office (VACB) have arrested almost 25 employees of the government and the public sector in the last six months.
Up to 18 cases registered under the 1988 Corruption Act are being investigated. According to official sources, employees have been charged with receiving bribes who worked in the local self -government department, agriculture and motor vehicles.
“More officials have been caught in red in recent months, because during this period there was an increase in the number of complaints,” said S. Sasidharan, police manager, Ernakulam Unit.
“As soon as people begin to respond to such illegal acts by sharing information with us, the number of cases of corruption will drop,” he added.
VACB found that the officials of the local government and motor vehicles got under the scanner after they began to request bribes for various permits. In the case of the arrest of former officer Ernaculam of regional transport TM Jerson, Jerson showed that he allegedly delayed the publication of documents related to the vehicle until he received the money bribe.
VACB reportedly detected savings and investments worth around 84 lakhs and confiscated cash in the amount of 64,000 GBP along with 74 bottles of Indians, which were on February 20, 20 February.
Vacb officials said that increased supervision helped catch officials associated with public sectoral companies and banks, except for government employees. The rented accountant associated with the nationalized bank was arrested after allegedly requested a 6 ₹ Lakh bribe from a Kochi trader. The leading official of the Indian oil company was arrested when receiving a bribe 2 lakh from the gas agency owner.
VACB urged the public not to offer bribes to any official, because it is a violation of the Corruption Prevention Act.
