Former Union minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader V. Muraleedharan demanded that former Devaswom minister Kadakampally Surendran take responsibility for the alleged Sabarimala gold theft.
The BJP leader added that the truth will come out only if he is investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Mr. Muraleedharan, who led a BJP demonstration to the residence of Mr. Surendran, MLA of Kazhakuttam Assembly constituency in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday, said that the ongoing investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is being deliberately sabotaged from various quarters.
Despite a scientific analysis conducted at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC) confirming adulteration and substitution of Sabarimala temple gold, no action was taken against the former minister who had a clear role in the functioning of the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB).
According to him, the ongoing investigation came to a halt after the arrest of two former TDB presidents. He also accused the government of trying to protect the culprits, adding that the suspected loot was done with the support of the CPI(M) and the Congress. Mr. Muraleedharan warned that the investigation conducted by the state government would not be fair or transparent and claimed that all the accused would be released after a few days and the case would eventually die out without any clarification.
BJP Thiruvananthapuram district president Karamana Jayan also addressed the protesters.
