The Uttarakhand Police has been awarded the President’s Police Colors, the highest national honor bestowed on the state police. Director General of Police (DGP) Deepam Seth met Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to pass on the information.
Mr Dhami described it as a “golden and glorious chapter” in the state’s history and a living testament to the pride, tradition and indomitable spirit of service. The Chief Minister said that the award places the Uttarakhand Police in the league of select police forces of the country to have received this recognition.
The gesture coming in the silver jubilee year of the state makes the achievement even more special, he said. Mr. Dhami said the award is given on the basis of a rigorous evaluation process, with every dimension of the police force undergoing thorough scrutiny.
He said the effectiveness of the state police was reflected in its pivotal role in disaster management, especially during the Kedarnath tragedy in 2013, and its exemplary management of security, traffic and crowd control during such massive events as the Maha Kumbh, Char Dham Yatra and Kanwar Yatra.
