Four people were killed and several fears that they were washed away after Tuesday (August 5, 2025) on Tuesday (August 5, 2025) in the afternoon caused lightning floods in the Kheer Ganga River. Floods hit hotels and residential buildings in Dharali, located 8,600 feet above sea level in the Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand.
Video shots recorded by the locals show giant waves of water that throw themselves around the area and swallow houses, people and everything in the way. People can hear a warning to their acquaintances to apply for their lives while others accepted frantic calls who controlled friends near the disaster area. The entire market area of the popular tourist city was washed away in minutes, so the place looked like a bed filled with a river.

The district municipality UtTarkashi Prashant Arya said that the floods that hit the city around 13:45 caused severe loss of life and property.
“There was a difficult destruction in the Harshil Helpad, another popular tourist place, which also houses the army and (Indo-Tibetan border police) ITBP camp. The state-strength teams of the catastrophe, army and iTBP were immediately rushed to the place of rescue operations,” Arya said.

Relief and rescue
According to PLK. Manish Shrivastava, an army public relationship in Dehradun, was rescued by about 20 people rescued in the first three hours of rescue operations.

Ibex Brigade Mobilized: Indian Army
In his statement, the Indian army said “a massive land landslide hit the village of Dharali in the Kheer Gad area near Harsil and caused a sudden flow of debris and water across the settlement.
“The Ibex brigade soldiers were immediately mobilized and reached the affected area to assess the situation and perform rescue operations. The extent of damage is determined and the updates will follow how help is based,” she said, “The army stands to support our citizens.”
“Hotels, home, could be washed away”
About 10-12 people could be buried under the debris, said the village of Rajesh Panwar. He said 20-25 hotels and families could be washed away.
In the villages there was panic in the area, with people trying to dry soil. Videos from the area showed a stream of water rushing down. People could hear screaming in panic.
