The Minister for irrigation and civil needs N. Uttam Kumar Reddy promised on Thursday to restore the last glory of the training and research institute for water and land management (Walamtari). He assured that the state government would grant the necessary other funds to restore the main positions of the Institute, including the training and research of irrigation and land administration.
Mr. Uttam Reddy visited the Institute together with Minister Panchayat Raj D. Seethak, Mahabubabad MP P. Balram Naik and other higher officials. Walamtari CEO M. Anith introduced a detailed overview of the history, activities and challenges of the Institute.
The Minister expressed his shock to learn that Walamtari, founded in 1983 as a project supported by the World Bank and recognized as one of the four top educational institutions in Telangana, did not regularly do educational programs. Officials informed him that with the exception of salary allocations, no funds have been published in recent years to develop training, research and development of infrastructure.
Mr. Uttam Reddy accused the previous BRS government of neglecting the institute and said that Walamtari was reduced to a symbolic entity despite his huge infrastructure, qualified workforce and strategic importance in the training of irrigation engineers, agricultural officers and farmers. He said that the irrigation department worked ad hoc according to the BRS government, but the government of the congress made the system more efficient and made its functioning more structured.
He ordered the institute bodies to immediately restore induction, refreshing and specialized educational programs for engineers and agricultural officers. He would write to all departments that encourage them to use Walamtari services.
The Minister inspected several wings of the institute and reviewed the infrastructure including computer laboratories, training and hostel complex. He expressed concern about the interventions of the Institute. He ordered the CEO to send a detailed report on all the issues suffering from the Institute. He supported the proposal to build a border wall around the Institute to prevent further interventions.
As part of its expansion, it is proposed that Walamtari be identified as the “Natural Agriculture Center” for the main level of the main level for scientists and farmers.
