Minister of irrigation N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Wednesday (August 27, 2025) stated that the measures to the flood in Telangana must be taken to the war basis to ensure lives and property during the ongoing magic of heavy rains.
In an interview with the media in Gandhi Bhavan, he said that all preventive measures were introduced to protect tanks, channels and small irrigation (mi) tanks from violations and ensuring efficient water management.
The Minister said that all possible steps were taken, from careful water levels to the deployment of sand bags at vulnerable points.
“With regard to floods, such as the situation in some districts, all irrigation officials are required to be present in the field and start measures to alleviate floods by their financial powers under GO 45,” the minister said.
Previously, Mr. Reddy organized a video conference with higher clerks of the irrigation department and ordered them to stay in high standby, especially in the districts of Kameddy and Medak, where heavy rainfall was reported. “Any measures to alleviate floods must be taken immediately,” he pointed out.
Messages from Kedeedda suggest that Nizam Sagar safely manipulated the surplus influx of 1.52 Lakh Cusecs with another 86,000 cusecs. The Minister ordered officials to immediately monitor, restore minor damage to the tank and ensure constant coordination with the district administration. “The hardest rains are recorded in your districts. Do not reduce your guard,” said Kameddy and Medak CES.
He ordered that flood alerts be issued to farmers in the Ayacut areas downstream from the tanks to take preliminary steps. He emphasized the need for fast communication lines so that reports of collision, tank level and field conditions are accepted in real time.
The Minister reviewed the storage in the Krishna and Godavari river basins and ordered engineers to provide continuous updates of the influx, discharges and time axes to achieve a full tank level. He asked if all pumps were working on full capacity and ordered that further pumping should be taken, where it is possible to effectively handle the water level.
In the Palair dam, he ordered officials to fill the tank to safe levels while maintaining the buffer span to meet the natural tide. He said that a regulated release must be provided via the left channel.
In the Godavari basin, surgery in the yellow, Mid Manair and Lower Manair was reviewed. The Minister asked the engineers to carefully balance the tides and to intensify the drawing in Annapurna, the Ranganayak Sagar and Mallan Sagar to reach optimal levels in the next two weeks.
In order to ensure responsibility, he ordered the engineer to the main AMJED Ullah to personally monitor the tank levels and draw daily through physical inspections and online reviews. He said that all CES must organize daily meetings and report progress to ensure any negligence in the readiness for floods.
