Brittany Cartwright has revealed details about a heated argument with her estranged husband, Jax Taylor. This argument ultimately led him to seek treatment for substance abuse.
During a recent episode of their podcast When Reality Hits, the 36-year-old Vanderpump Rules star shared a story. It was about a November 2024 morning when Jax woke up in a “terrible mood” after a night out. The tension escalated as they argued on the way to a doctor’s appointment for their son, Cruz. Brittany claimed Jax was showing signs of drug use and withdrawal.
Brittany explained that she initially asked Jax not to join her and Cruz for the long drive, but he insisted. The argument worsened as they discussed their struggles with opening a bar together. This was contrary to Jax’s recent claims. He mentioned that the fight was sparked by another man texting Brittany.
“Before the guy ever sent a text, he was already on my neck, making me cry,” Brittany recalled. “We were in the car for at least 30 minutes at that point. It got so bad that I almost had to call an Uber to take me and Cruz home.”
Jax’s Explosive Reaction in the Car
Brittany described how the situation turned explosive when a text from another man appeared on the car’s GPS screen. “He lost it,” she said. “He started trying to grab my phone while Cruz was in the back seat. It was terrifying.”
Jax, 45, later admitted on Bravo’s Hot Mic Podcast that he “lost it” and “went crazy in the car.” He acknowledged that the incident made him realize the severity of his substance abuse. “I knew then, ‘Alright, I have a problem. This is it,’” he said.
Brittany Challenges Jax’s Claim About Sobriety
Jax claimed their son Cruz was the reason he sought help. Brittany pushed back. She stated that Jax initially refused to acknowledge his problem. She revealed that after returning home from the doctor’s office, she contacted Jax’s sister. She also contacted his manager, publicist, and executive producer Alex Baskin. She warned them that Jax’s TV career was at risk if he didn’t take action.
“I called all those people. His career was on the line. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have gone [to rehab],” Brittany said. “It was a really bad situation.”
She also revealed that the argument occurred on the same day Jax was involved in a hit-and-run accident. Shortly after, he checked into a rehab facility, separate from the mental health center he attended earlier in the year. However, Brittany noted that he left treatment after only 17 days.
Jax Celebrates Sobriety While Brittany Leans on Friends
Despite her doubts about Jax’s long-term sobriety, Brittany expressed hope that he continues his recovery journey. “No one wants Jax to get better more than I do,” she shared. “I’ve tried for years to help him improve so we could be a happy family. I was deeply and madly in love with him—no one can deny that.”
On Saturday, Jax marked 100 days of sobriety with an Instagram post. It featured a photo of himself and a chart. The chart showed his time free from cocaine and alcohol. “100 days down and the rest of my life,” the post read.
Meanwhile, Brittany has leaned on friends for support. Earlier this week, she joined former Vanderpump Rules co-star Scheana Shay to watch her perform on The Masked Singer. “The next day was really hard for her. She’s been hit from all angles,” Shay told Page Six in an exclusive interview.
Jax continues his sobriety journey. Brittany navigates their separation. The turbulent relationship of the former couple remains in the public eye.
