The Mysuru Municipal Corporation (MCC) has warned that it will cancel business licenses of business establishments within its limits if they do not prioritize Kannada on their signboards.
All commercial and business establishments operating within the MCC limits must ensure that at least 60% of the texts on their message boards are in Kannada. Failure to comply with this obligation will result in the cancellation of trade licenses and the closure of such establishments, MKC warned.
In a press release here on Friday, MCC Commissioner Sheikh Tanveer Asif said that despite repeated awareness campaigns and recommendations, many businesses have yet to comply with the directive to give prominence to Kannada on their name plates.
Name boards must display Kannada text at the top occupying 60% of the total space. The remaining 40% of board space can be used for English if needed, the release adds.
