The Jasmine Paolini’s US Open 2025 campaign ended on Friday when it fell in the third round on the Czech star and 2023 Wimbledon Champion Marketa Vondrousov. At the Louis Armstrong stadium, Vondrous’s dictated pace and advanced to the last 16 with 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 victories.
The seventh seed of Paolini never fully found their rhythm. Vondrous’s left -handed variety, based on sharp angles and consistent starting, kept Italian under constant pressure. Paolini fought hard in the opening set, saved two points of breaks and forced the break, but the Czech was sharper in the decisive points.
US Open 2025 Day 6 Updates
The competition lasted an hour and 26 minutes, with Vondrousova produced 22 winners for Paolini 20, maintaining her mistakes down. Paolini’s portion, the key force in earlier rounds, failed against Vondrous’s return, and she was interrupted twice through both sets.
The second set slipped quickly when Paolini gave up twice, allowing Vondrous to easily close the match.
Despite the defeat, Paolini can encourage his run. She denotes her second best performance in New York because she had previously crossed the second round only once in 2024.
For Vondrousov, the reward is the fourth clash with Elena Rybakina, which previously excluded 2021 Emmy Raducan champion in direct sets.
Releases around azarenka
Jessica Pegula maintained her strong run at the US Open Alive with a direct victory over former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka on Friday. Seed No. 5 from the United States won 6-1, 7-5 and reserved its place in the fourth round without dropping the set in the tournament.
Pegula began quickly and took full control over the first set. She broke twice Azarenko’s administration and kept the gathering short and forced Belarusian into mistakes. Azarenka also fought a problem with his left foot, which reduced her movement and made it difficult to keep up with Pegula’s sharp basic game. The American used her constant administration and deep returns to closing the opening in just over half an hour.
The second set was much more competitive. Azarenka found more rhythm and fought hard, even breaking to lead 5-4. The double Grand Slam champion increased his level and looked ready to push the match into the decisive set.
But Pegula remained calm, immediately returned and then held under pressure. With a score of 6-5, she created a strong return game that won.
Pegula is also planned to lock the corners with the winner of the third round of the clash between the Australian Priscilla Hon and Ann Li in the United States.
