
Thirty -one workers were safely evacuated from the industrial tunnel under construction in Wilmington, Los Angeles after its part collapsed on Wednesday, according to the Fire Brigade in Los Angeles (LAFD).
The incident occurred about 8 to 9.7 kilometers from the only entrance to the tunnel, located in the industrial area of the city. Air shots from local intelligence shots have shown that the workers are raised over the entrance point, informed etc.
After the collapse, some workers managed to climb over 12 to 15 foot hill of free land to address his colleagues on the other side. The group was then transported in the stages to the entrance to the tunnel by means of a tunnel.
The collapse occurred about six miles (10 km) south of the only tunnel approach, Lafd said, adding that more than 100 respondents were assigned to the incident.
“The city of Los Angeles mobilized resources on the collapse of the Wilmington tunnel,” said Mayor Karen Bass in a post on X.
The tunnel is under construction to eventually transfer waste water. It is 18 feet wide, Lafd said.
More than 100 LAFD workers, including those who specialize in rescue from limited spaces, were assigned to the scene.
