US launches new wave of attacks on Iran, hits Iranshahr airport; Trump questions whether Tehran is ‘worthy of a deal’ | Today’s news

The United States has launched a series of additional strikes in Iran “to further reduce its ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Thursday. The strikes were in response to attacks on commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

“At the direction of the Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Central Command forces have launched additional strikes against Iran to further reduce its ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” CENTCOM said in a post on X.

He added that the United States “holds Iran accountable for recent unprovoked aggression against commercial shipping and civilian crews navigating freely in a vital international waterway.”

Iranian state media reported explosions in several cities, including Bushehr, Bandar Abbas and Sirik. Iran’s Mehr news agency also reported an explosion near the city of Konarak and Chabahar in southeastern Iran.

US President Donald Trump shared a post on Truth Social on Wednesday about the US attacks targeting Iranshahr Airport in southeastern Iran.

A Telegram linked to the IRGC reported on Wednesday a large-scale missile attack on US bases in the Persian Gulf countries. The channel did not provide further details or identify the locations of the bases.

What escalated the attacks?

The attacks were launched after the US accused Iran of violating a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the conflict, with President Donald Trump saying recent Iranian attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz signaled the end of a fragile truce.

President Donald Trump said Wednesday that the Iran deal is “over” and that Washington will “probably” take further strikes against Iran. In a TRUTH SOCIAL post, he warned that the last operation was “retaliation” and warned that “if it happens again, it will be much worse.”

Meanwhile, Iran’s foreign ministry said the US strikes on Iran’s southern coast violated the memorandum of understanding.

According to Iran International, its spokesman said Washington violated the structure of the agreement by challenging the clause on safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz and carrying out what it called “aggressive attacks.”

Trump questions Iran’s commitment to any deal

US President Donald Trump said aboard Air Force One on Wednesday that Iran had contacted the US asking for a deal, but questioned whether Tehran could be trusted to honor any deal.

Trump said the US had already “won militarily” and that there were “many ways” to achieve victory.

“There are many ways we can win this. We’ve already won militarily and they have little and they want to make a deal so much. They called a while ago, they want to make a deal so badly. I just don’t know if they’re worthy of making a deal. I don’t know if they can keep the deal, that’s the problem,” Trump said.
