Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran wants to revive its June truce with Washington ahead of November’s US midterm elections, telling reporters: “We don’t want it to get to the midterm elections.”

“We don’t want it to get to the midterm elections,” Pezeshkian told NBC News and other news organizations on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. “We want the Americans to go back to the memorandum of understanding before it’s halfway through,” he added.

Reuters reported on Thursday, citing Iranian, regional and Western sources, that US and Iranian negotiators were exploring a phased deal that could reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for Washington lifting its economic blockade on Iran.

Iran ‘willing to give up 60% of enriched uranium’

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said, according to Iran International, that Tehran is willing to give up 60% enriched uranium within international law and its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Asked by Fox News’ Bret Baier if Iran would give up its 60 percent enriched uranium, Pezeshkian said: “Yes, within international law under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Whatever we have to comply with, we will.”

Iran is still pursuing a deal with the US

Pezeshkian told Fox News Special that Tehran remains willing to reach an agreement with Washington despite the killing of its top leader, scientists and military commanders in US and Israeli strikes.

He reportedly said Iran was seeking a deal based on its rights under international law and remained willing to move forward with an earlier agreement reached with President Donald Trump.

“We have reached an agreement with your president,” Pezeshkian said. “This agreement has been signed and based on that, we are willing and still wish to move forward.”

Pezeshkian also said that Iran did not close the Strait of Hormuz and that it remained open when the country was attacked. “They murdered and tortured our respected supreme leader, our scientists, our military commanders and the government,” he added.
