In what felt like a digital apocalypse, the beloved UPI system in India decreased on Wednesday and millions stuck on cash shelves, restaurants and even chai stalls. Users of Google Pay, Phonepe and Paytm face unsuccessful transactions, evoke panic, frustration and – inexplicably – spilling memes.
The National Payments Corporation (NPCI) company later explained this problem and stated that “NPCI has experienced intermittent technical problems, leading to partial UPI disturbances. The problem has now been solved and stabilized. We regret the inconvenience.” Until then, however, social media broke out with a cheerful situation.
Cheerful memories
One user, stuck in the middle of the dessert, lamented, “Why is this MF UPI at the bottom of the Kha Li Plates nai ho Raha kya karu” (why is it upi below?
Another was published by MEME by Phir Hera Perti, where Johnny Lever: “Maal Kaha Hai?” .
One of the funniest acceptance came from a user who pointed to the irony of people who panicked after the UPI downtime, although they had barely had any money in their accounts. “People who fear that UPI is only Rs on their bank account.”
Meanwhile, the user emphasized the adaptability of small sellers, joking: “UPI is down and now even my chaiwala offers” clean banking “instead” and continued by “finally the day we all feel what it is like to be a rbi governor, no control over our own money”
The user who added to the entertainment sent Meme Hera feveri with Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal and said, “ABAYA on line PE” (now you have come in line), with the headline: “UPI mines !! In the meantime wallet -” reminds why keeping cash is still a wise choice.
While the UPI disruption has been quickly resolved, memes will undoubtedly live as a cheerful reminder of India’s ability to transform financial barriers into comic relief.
