The UP Warriorz WPL 2026 campaign took a big hit with star batsman Phoebe Litchfield ruled out for the rest of the season with a quad injury. The Australian left-hander, who was the team’s top scorer with 243 runs in six matches, was among the tournament’s best players before his forced exit.
Litchfield, currently third in the Orange Cap rankings with 150-plus strikeouts and two half-centuries, has been a mainstay for the UP Warriorz batting line-up. Her loss comes at a crucial stage, qualification for the playoffs hangs in the balance.
To fill the void, the franchise brought in goalie Amy Jones as Litchfield’s replacement. A veteran with over 125 T20Is, Jones, signed at a base price of Rs 50 lakh, adds depth and experience as the team fights to keep their play-off hopes alive.
Currently, the UP Warriorz are at the bottom of the points table with four points from six matches and need to win their remaining matches and improve their net rate to stay in contention – a challenge made even tougher without Litchfield’s firepower.
WHO IS AMY JONES?
Amy Jones is a seasoned English cricketer, celebrated for her consistency with the bat and gloves. She made her international debut in 2013 and has since established herself as one of England’s most reliable white-ball players.
Jones has scored more than 2,500 ODI runs in her career, making her one of England’s top run scorers, and has surpassed 1,500 T20I runs, becoming the seventh English woman to reach the milestone.
Her batting achievements include several half-centuries and two ODI centuries, both scored in quick succession during the 2025 series against the West Indies, making her one of the few women to hit back-to-back hundreds in ODIs.
She also played a 86 match wins at the 2025 Women’s World Cup against New Zealand, led England to a comfortable victory and won the Man of the Match award.
Behind the stumps, Jones has been a mainstay, contributing numerous catches and stumps across formats. She also captains England in the absence of the senior leaders, bringing her leadership and experience to the fore.
Known for her resilience and adaptability, Jones remains a key figure in England’s batting line-up and a respected presence in international women’s cricket.
