The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday (February 6, 2026) extended the deadline for the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh for the fourth time. The 30-day extension was granted on the request of Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa, the election body said.

Mr Rinwa said claims and objections could now be lodged until March 6.

The Commission said that after considering other relevant factors and in exercise of the power conferred on it under Rule 12 of the Voter Registration Rules, 1960, it extended the period for filing complaints and objections. Notices can now be issued to voters until March 27, and the final date for publication of electoral rolls is April 10.

Of the 15.44 million voters in the previous list, 12.55 million voters were retained in the draft list and about 2.89 million voters, about 19%, were deleted due to deaths, permanent migration or multiple registrations. Opposition parties in the state alleged that the names were wrongfully deleted.
