The Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday (June 13, 2026) constituted a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the allegations regarding the alleged disappearance of donations made at the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

The SIT was formed on the request of the Shree Ram Janmabhoomi Temple Trust and was directed to submit a final report within 15 days and a preliminary report within seven days. The members of the SIT include Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Vijay Vishwas Pant, Inspector General of Police S. Kiran and Special Secretary (Finance) Neel Ratan.

The decision comes after a war of words broke out in Uttar Pradesh with Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav claiming that crores of rupees donated by devotees at the Ram temple had gone missing and demanded that the judge take suo motu notice.

Responding to Mr. Yadav’s allegations, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust General Secretary Champat Rai said that internal audits are underway, adding that nothing remarkable has come to light so far. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the SP chief of spreading rumors about the Ram Temple.
