The income department will soon start measures to identify unused government land owned by various departments in the Kozhikode district and assign it to the construction of houses as part of a life mission for extremely poor people. The data bank of such unused land will be prepared within two months by officials of income led by the district collector.
According to the recent order for the State Government (GO), the collector is entitled to take over such identified land without required to require a certificate of landowners’ content. The soil thus obtained can easily be assigned to recipients based on screening at the district level.
Resources in the revenue department stated that the latest GO officials were entitled to assess the availability of two hectares in each Grama Panchayat, one acre in each municipality and 50 cents within the Kozhikode Corporation limits for performing available housing projects. Only graphs that were not required for future development projects would be considered.
“Details of extremely poor people are already available for local administrators for assessment in the new system. There are a total of 2,991 families without land to be considered this program,” said the head of the income official. He added that by November 2025, all efforts to meet the requirements of identified families will be made.
In Kozhikode, the “Manassode Ithiri Mannu” campaign launched by the state government has encouraged many people to voluntarily contribute land for the project of life mission. According to government records, the Ministry of income received 90.75 cents in the district for the construction of the house. The donors were mostly of thalakkulathur, kunnamangalam, kottur, villiappaly, peramanna, koodaranhi, chakkittappara and Omassery.
Life missions coordinators said that a total of 33,477 houses were built under the project in three phases in the district. The support of various government authorities, the schemes of the state government and assistance in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana projects also contributed to the early completion of the houses.
