The American journalist and political commentator Rick Sanchez, who today hosts “Sanchez Effect” on Russia, criticized the decision of the United States to impose tariffs to buy Russian oil in India and described it as “disrespectful and ignorant policy”.
He accused Donald Trump of sometimes decision -making based on “resentment and non -scientific thinking”.
In an interview with or Sanchez, “India is a big boy, not a schoolboy” and his pressure against US pressure refers to a “cataclysmic, transformation moment” that historians consider to move global power from west to south.
Key points from Sanchez’s criticism of American policy
Sanchez said that Trump’s decision to impose a total of 50% of tariffs on Indian goods, including 25% of the secondary tariff for the import of Russian oil, it seems to be based on “personal shops” rather than on sound geopolitical strategy.
He referred to the report of the US multinational investment banks and financial services companies Jefferies, which indicated that tariffs were the result of a “personal pique” that he was not allowed to convey a conflict in India, Pakistan.
Trump repeatedly claimed that during the Sindoor operation he mediated a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, although the new Delhi showed that third parties were not mediated and hostility stopped after Pakistan DGMO called his Indian counterpart, he added.
Disrespect and unconscious foreign policy
Sanchez argued that the policy of Trump’s administration was based on an insufficient understanding of India’s history and its role in the world.
He said the US treats India as a “schoolboy, to whom it must be what to do”. He also rejected the claim from Trump’s auxiliary assistance Peter Navarr, who called the Russian-Ukrainian War “War of PM Modi” and described the statement as “ridiculous” and uninformed.
USA hypocrisy and inconsistent sanctions
Asked that Trump selects India for buying Russian oil and non -depositing sanctions on China and Europe, which continue to buy oil and gas from Russia, Sanchez said, “He is random in his approach.”
He also added that the President lacks a “feeling of stability and consistency”, suggesting that the US cannot be too hard on China, because its economy is so dependent on Chinese products and loans.

“China has lent us so much that our economy is based on everything China does not only in terms of products that 90% of products in any Walmart, where American shops come from China. The rest can come from Vietnam and parts of Malaysia.”
Indian reaction and geopolitical shift
The Indian government has described US tariffs as “extremely unfortunate, unfounded and disproportionate” and said it would take all the steps necessary to protect its national interests. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that oil imports in India from Russia are based on market factors and should ensure energy security of 1.4 billion people in India.
Despite US tariffs, the Ukrainian analytical oil market with Natoronok’s oil revealed that India became the largest supplier of Ukraine diesel in July 2025 and supplied approximately 15.5% of their diesel imports.

Sanchez also suggested that US tariffs could push India to a closer economic relationship with China as leaders from both countries, together with Russia participates in the SCO summit in Tianjin.
“I feel that PM modi has fully committed to launching this economic embrace, only after the Indian government felt disrespect for a point where they began to think it was time to rebuild this relationship … It is Machiavellian games by PM Modi and President XI.”
