The Kunnamangalam Judicial First Class Magistrate Court will on Thursday (February 5) hear the remand application filed by the Medical College police for Shimjitha Musthafa, who was earlier arrested and remanded in judicial custody for allegedly aiding and abetting the unnatural death of Govindapuram native U. Deepak after a video of her being sexually harassed emerged.

Police sources said the court will hear the remand plea on February 5 and if the remand is granted, the accused will be taken to Kannur district to collect more evidence related to her bus journey to Payyannur.

A senior police officer associated with the investigation said the mobile phone used by the accused to record the video was still under forensic examination to verify suspicions of editing the visuals before they were posted on social media. A preliminary check showed that the video had been edited, the officer said.

Deepak was found dead at his residence near Govindapuram in Kozhikode on January 18. According to police sources, the sexual harassment video was recorded by the accused during a bus journey in Kannur district on January 16.
