United States draws confidence from 2024 heroics to challenge Pakistan again

February 9, 2026

Leg-spinner Mohammad Mohsin said the United States will take confidence from their memorable victory over Pakistan in 2024 when the two sides meet again in a T20 World Cup clash on Tuesday, February 10, at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.

Two years ago at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas USA stunned Pakistan after the match went into Super Over. Current captain Monank Patel played with a composed half-century while Saurabh Netravalkar then held on to the courage to restrict Pakistan in the Super Over.

Mohsin, who impressed against India at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai with figures of 4-0-16-1, said the USA will look to give Pakistan a tough fight in the upcoming encounter.

“Yes, we have. We talked about it in a way that we are carrying the confidence we got from beating them in the last World Cup and hopefully tomorrow we will be more confident than last time and put up a good fight against them,” Mohsin told a pre-match press conference.

USA STRONGER AND SMARTER

Mohsin, 29, said the United States has a stronger team with a lot more skill this time around. He said that with the expansion of its skills, the US has a good chance of making Pakistan a working card.

“I wasn’t part of the team at the last World Cup, but I was there and watched the game. The big difference this year is that our strength has increased. Now we have a more skilful side, although the previous team was also talented, the overall skill level has increased. We hope to play a good game against them tomorrow and hopefully win again,” added Mohsin.

HOW DID USA FARE AGAINST INDIA?

Ahead of their clash with Pakistan, the United States will take confidence from a spirited display against hard-pressed defending champions India. before falling by 29 runs in Mumbai. USA opted to pounce first and made an immediate impact, with 37-year-old pacer Shadley van Schalkwyk tearing through India’s top order.

His three-wicket haul left India struggling at 46 for four as the American bowlers applied sustained pressure and used early movement on a tricky surface. India recovered from the collapse largely thanks to captain Suryakumar Yadav, whose unbeaten 84 off 49 balls lifted them to a competitive 161 for nine.

In response, the US has shown commendable resilience. Sanjay Krishnamurthi (37) and Milind Kumar (34) put on a 58-run partnership that briefly kept the chase alive, but regular wickets halted their momentum. The USA eventually finished on 132 for eight, a fighting total that underscored their growing ability to face the best players despite ending up on the losing side.
