The Samyukt Kisan Morcha, an umbrella organization of various farmers’ organisations, and the platform of ten Central Trade Unions (CTUs) have decided that workers and farmers from all districts of the country will submit a memorandum to President Droupadi Murma against the Electricity Amendment Bill and Labor Policy Draft of the Union Labor Ministry. The joint memorandum will be submitted to the President on November 26 through the District Collectors.
A joint meeting of the CTU and SKM held last week reiterated their commitment to continue “coordinated and synchronized actions in solidarity to challenge the pro-corporate, anti-labour and anti-agricultural policies of the central government”.
The meeting decided to organize one-month campaigns on CTU and SKM’s charter of demands as well as their common issues in all districts and state headquarters, which will culminate on November 26. “Leaderships everywhere will present a memorandum of concerns and demands addressed to the President of India. The meeting noted that it is of utmost urgency for the masses to campaign to protect secular democracy, push back the anti-labour, anti-farmer and anti-national repressive policy framework of the central government, which is becoming more vindictive and repressive,” the joint statement said.
The statement added that the Union government is serving the interests of international finance and has failed to protect Indian farmers, workers, small businesses and trade against US President Donald Trump’s tariff regime. “New attempts are being made to privatize public sector enterprises and utilities, the latest being the proposed Electricity Act 2025 and the draft labor policy of the Ministry of Labor and Employment. Attempts are being made to bypass state governments to continue the agenda of the four labor codes and take away farmers’ land through the state machinery,” the statement added.
