Union Ministers Mansukh Mandaviya and Pralhad Joshi will inaugurate a multi-facility sports complex in Dharwad on Saturday.
A well-equipped sports complex, including an international standard swimming pool, built to encourage and support athletes is expected to nurture local talent.
The complex was built on 1.6 acres of land at an estimated cost of ₹ 50 crore through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funding from companies such as ONGC and NMDC Limited.
Technical guidance for the project was provided by the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and the prestigious Delhi School of Planning and Architecture.
The complex includes an international standard swimming pool, spacious facilities for indoor sports and several modern facilities.
Most of the structure was built using advanced steel structure technology. Facilities include a well-equipped spectator gallery and athletes’ rooms.
On the ground floor of the swimming pool complex there is a water treatment plant, sanitary facilities, office space and facilities for indoor games such as carrom and chess.
The first floor will host kabaddi, wrestling, taekwondo, table tennis, gymnastics and a spectator gallery along with toilets and hostels for athletes.
In the basement there are administrative offices, shooting and archery facilities, parking for cars and bicycles and a canteen.
In addition, eight shops will be built along the road in front of the campus.
A spectator gallery and a 50×30 international competition standard swimming pool along with a kabaddi court will be available inside the sports complex.
There will be badminton courts, indoor sports arenas and a gymnasium on the first and second floors.
The construction work was carried out by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), a public sector undertaking of the Indian Railways that undertakes major railway infrastructure projects.
The pool complex was built through RVNL’s partner group of companies, the release said.
