Minister of the Union Nitin Gadkari said on Wednesday (September 24, 2025) that the government must support farmers who do not receive fair prices for their production because they are determined by global factors.
He stated that the “2 bio-Energy & Tech expo” edition “said that the sugar price was intended for Brazil, the price of Malaysia oil, the corn price in the US and the soybean price is affected by Argentina.
“We are facing poverty and unemployment problems in rural and tribal India, because farmers will not get good prices in the global economy,” the minister said.
Mr Gadkari said that 65% of India’s population is dealing with agricultural activities, but their contribution to the Earth’s GDP is only 14%.
“In this scenario, we must support agriculture in order to protect our countryside and the tribal economy … which is very important for consumers, country and for you,” he said.
The Minister of Road Transport and Motorways pointed out that when the government allowed the production of bio-ethanol from corn, the price of maize increased to 2,800 GBP for Quintal from 1,200 GBP per quintal.
“Therefore, farmers have faced many economic problems because they will not receive a reasonably good price for their crops,” he said.
According to Mr. Gadkari, farmers earned another 45,000 GBP Crore by producing Ethanol from corn. “Agriculture diversification against the energy and energy sector is therefore the need for our country,” he added. The Minister said that alternative fuel and biofuels have a great future in India.
“We are currently an importer of energy … The day comes when we are an exporter of energy, and this will be the most important historical success for Earth,” he said.
When he talked about air pollution in India, Mr. Gadkari said that 40% of the air pollution is caused by transport fuel and it is a big problem for the country, especially Delhi.
“We are working in the national interest to reduce our country’s pollution,” he said.
India imports fossil fuels worth 22 lamps, causing pollution, the minister added.
“From the point of view of economic point of view, it is time for pollution to the world and it is time for India to encourage biofuels and alternative fuel,” he said.
The Minister also claimed that his goal was to make India a leader in the area of sustainable air fuel.
