The CPI(M) on Sunday slammed the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, saying it was anti-human and turned a blind eye to the financial needs of Andhra Pradesh while favoring corporations.
Addressing the media, CPI(M) State Secretary V Srinivasa Rao said the Center had failed to allocate sufficient funds to the state for key commitments, exposing the inability of the ruling coalition in Andhra Pradesh, which claims to be part of a “two-engine government”, to secure the state’s rightful share.
He expressed anger over the absence of allocations for Visakhapatnam steel plant, development of backward regions and construction of the capital city.
Pointing out that not a single new project has been approved for Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Srinivasa Rao accused the Center of giving loans as financial assistance.
The allocation for the Polavaram project has been reduced to ₹3,000 crore compared to previous years and it has been questioned how the state government intends to complete the project by 2026 with the reduced funds. He also expressed concern over the confusion over funds for the rehabilitation of displaced families, saying that even though ₹21,000 crore was required, even the first phase of resettlement was not properly completed.
The CPI(M) leader said that Rayalaseema, Kadapa Steel Plant, North Andhra and backward regions like Markapur in Prakasam district were suffering from severe injustice. He termed the coalition leaders’ claims of generous central assistance as “disgraceful”, despite frequent visits to Delhi.
Mr. Srinivasa Rao alleged that there were cuts of ₹ 2 lakh crore meant for states in the budget and called on the TDP and YSRCP to respond. He called on people to oppose the budget and start struggles to secure proper funding for the state.
