On the basis of the opposition over the death of a girl who set on the campus of her college in Balasore over alleged sexual harassment, the government of the main Minister Mohan High in Odisha announced a special Shakkree program on Saturday to ensure the safety of girls in university education institutions.
“The state government has decided to start a program that will ensure the safety and security of girls at universities and universities. This initiative is in response to the increase in crimes against girls in recent days across university institutions.
This program will be implemented at all 16 universities and 730 government and government universities under the Ministry of Higher Education.
Shaktishree, based on eight different key components, will help ensure a safe academic environment at universities and universities and provide training on self -defense of university and postgraduate girls, the government said.
The announcement comes after the 20 -year -old student Odisha College, who, after alleged sexual harassment of her university professor, gave up on academic ground, died of injury in Aiims Bhubaneswar. According to reports, despite accommodation of a formal complaint and search for assistance from the director, her requests were ignored, leading to a tragic incident.
Student cells
The state government proposed to set up a permanent “Shaktishree Empowerment Cell” at every university and university that girls will run.
“Each cell will be managed by a girl student marked as Shaktishree Saathi and a female member of the faculty as Shaktishree Sanyojika (coordinator).
The cell organizes a six -day training program at benefits for girls’ students about self -defense, legal rights and mental health.
Mobile app to increase complaints
Students will also be made available to the Shaktishree mobile application. This is expected to expand awareness of the committees for internal complaints (ICC), their rules and function and contact details of the members. In addition, it will help the girl to confidently report complaints via text, sound, or videos that will be directly achieved by the chairman of the ICC of its institution.
If a student feels that her problem is not solved by ICC, he can escalate him to the local committee. The university education department will soon be released a detailed standard operational procedure.
One of the Shakkree components is a code of behavior for teachers and non -paying employees who will have to complete annual online training to raise awareness of women’s security, gender sensitivity and professional ethics.
A campaign entitled Safe (ShaktIShree action to strengthen the position of women) will start to raise awareness of equality of women and women and strengthen women’s position. It will include two -year camps of self -defense and workshops awareness of women’s rights and security. This will increase the self -confidence of girls’ students and help support the safe academic environment. In addition, each university presents an annual report on the campus safety within 31 December every year.
The government will bring all universities and universities under the supervision of CCTV with a separate control room for supervision.
