Following the Kolkata warehouse collapse, Suvendu suspends commercial construction projects until May 31
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday (June 24) suspended work on all under-construction commercial projects approved by the previous TMC government until July 31 and ordered a comprehensive audit of such projects following a warehouse collapse in the city that left five dead.
The chief minister made the announcement after visiting the accident site and said preliminary reports submitted to him indicated that the approved construction plan for the collapsed warehouse was flawed.
“I have directed the Commissioner of Kolakat Municipal Corporation (KMC) and the Department of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs to stop work on all under-construction commercial buildings approved by the previous government, including projects where permission was granted after impoundment of water bodies. All will be audited,” the CM said.
