Saudi authorities have agreed to allow umrah passengers from Hyderabad to be buried at Jannat ul Baqi, a shrine in Madinah, after funeral prayers at the Masjid-e-Nabawi (Prophet’s Mosque) at the request of the Telangana delegation, which is coordinating relief efforts in the Kingdom.
A three-member team from Telangana, led by Minority Welfare Minister Mohammed Azharuddin and comprising Nampalla legislator Mohammed Majid Hussain and Minority Welfare Department Secretary B. Shafiullah, met a high-level Indian government delegation in Saudi Arabia on Thursday.
The meeting was held to review ongoing measures and ensure coordinated support to the families of those who died in the recent tragedy.
Andhra Pradesh Governor Justice S. Abdul Nazeer led a delegation comprising Secretary (CPV and OIA) in the Ministry of External Affairs Arun Kumar Chatterjee and Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Suhel Ajaz Khan. According to sources, the officials discussed assistance and coordination and also discussed demands for immediate next course of action.
Mr Azharuddin had earlier told The Hindu that he had asked for the funerals of the bus crash victims at Jannat ul Baqi. According to officials, this request has been accepted. Indian officials and Saudi authorities are now coordinating efforts to bring the process to its logical conclusion.
