Former minister and actor Umashree’s solo play Sharmishthe will be released in Hubballi on February 14.
The play will be presented by theater group ‘Rangasampada’ and will be performed at Sawai Gandharva Hall in Hubballi at 7 pm.
Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, Rangasampada secretary VM Nagesh said that this would be the 33rd performance of the solo play in which veteran actor Umashree would play fourteen characters. He said the play was well received by the people, leading to many performances at various venues.
Written by Raghuangan, it is sent with King Jamba.
Mr. Nagesh said that in the 53rd year of its establishment, Rangasampada has staged more than 60 plays in collaboration with eminent directors. Rangasampada’s recent productions include an adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s Ghare-Baire as Lokada Olahorage.
The play ‘Sharmishthe’ revolves around a mythological character of the same name found in the epic Mahabharata. The play unfolds as a journey through Sharmishth’s inner world where memory, time and conflict intertwine. Standing in the presence, he confronts Yayati’s illusion of eternal youth and Puru’s inherited burden of false old age, ultimately restoring balance and responsibility.
