Commission for grants at the university issued new regulations for equivalence of qualifications acquired in foreign institutions.
Qualifications from a foreign educational institution are recognized for granting the certificate of equivalence if the institution is recognized under the relevant laws in force in its home country.
The candidate must perform a study program according to the standards and standards of set institutions and the requirements for the input level for admission to these programs must be similar to the corresponding program in India.
The Permanent Committee will decide, among other things, on the requirements for granting equivalence on parameters such as credits, dissertation, practical experience learning and an internship requirement. UGC also set standards for granting equivalence for qualifications obtained from the campus or institution within the franchise arrangement or through a franchising arrangement.
UGC chairman M. Jagadesh Kumar said:
The aim of the new regulation is to standardize the framework of equivalence. “UGC has developed a transparent mechanism based on technology to recognize foreign qualifications from schools and university institutes. This step is essential given the vision of the National Educational Policy (NEP) for the transformation of India to a global study objective,” he said.
In order for Indian institutions to attract foreign students, the Indian university system must ensure fair recognition of titles acquired abroad, he stressed. “By solving the long -term UGC problem, the UGC has made a decisive step in this significant reform to make the Indian higher education system more inclusive, more competitive and ready for the future,” he added.
