The Madras High Court on Wednesday (April 15, 2025) called for a report by the Director General of Income Tax (Investigation) after a suit was filed to probe alleged material irregularities in assets declared by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin during the 2021 Legislative Assembly polls and for the election to be held on April 23 this year.
First Division Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice G. Arul Murugan asked Additional Solicitor General AR.L. Sundaresan, assisted by Income Tax Department Standing Counsel AP Srinivas, to ensure that the report is filed by Monday (April 20), as the petitioner insisted that voters must know about the assets of each candidate before the election day.
