
The one -day health conclave organized by United Democratic Front (UDF) tried to find an alternative model of health care for the state on Friday.
The leader of the opposition VD Satheesan, who inaugurated the Conclave, said the event was organized because the opposition felt that the leadership should take the lead in examining what the worrying sectors of the state of the state and offers better alternatives.
Area of focus
UDF was established by the Health Commission to explore the main areas in the healthcare, where the state had to do better. The aim had to focus on improving primary care and special geriatric services in hospitals in districts and taluk. Mental health was another area where much more needs to be done.
Mr Satheesen said that the discussion initiated by the conclave on various issues in the health sector of the state will continue. The result of the conclave would be compiled in a document that could serve as a plan for the Kerala health care system.
Discussed problems
More than 250 experts, including leading doctors from the US, Great Britain, Canada, Bahrain and Dubai, joined considerations. The discussed problems included infrastructure shortcomings, health financing, health justice, emergency medicine, infectious and chronic diseases, women and children’s health, transgender health, mental health, the need for specialized geriatric care, one health and other emerging future challenges in health.
The UDF Health Commission, chaired by a SS LAL public health expert, shall prepare a document based on Conclave.
