The united democratic front (UDF) gained administration in the village of Thodupuzha with seven months before the term of office ended.
In the elections held on Saturday, the candidate UDF K. Deepak was elected chairman of the municipality. While Mr. Deepak received 14 votes from Congress, the democratic front candidate mini Madhu of CPI (m) secured 12 votes.
Eight Rads of Bharatiya Janata voted. BJP released its eight councilors whip to refrain from voting.
In the 35-member municipality, UDF has 14 members, LDF 12 and BJP 8. One member was disqualified.
LDF lost power in the village after UDF won a proposal for not limited to 19th March. Eighteen members, including four BJP councilors, supported this proposal.
In Thodupuzha, LDF came to power by granting the Presidency of the Rebel Saneesh George Congress. In June 2024, Mr. George was appointed second accused in the case of a bribery, after which LDF ordered him to resign from his contribution.
After a month of uncertainty, he resigned on July 27 after the Indian Communist Party (Marxist) shifted a proposal for trust.
The conflict between Congress and the Indian Union Muslim League (iuml) resulted in the victory for LDF in the elections to the municipal chairman in August 2024. The candidate LDF Sabeen Binju won with the support of five members of IUML.
Sources said UDF announced Mr. Deepak as his chairman after the intervention of the state management. The leadership ordered the leaders of Congress and Iuml to ensure that they reach power in the village.
