Udayagiri, a fortress town in SPSR Nellore district, paid a silent tribute to its ‘son of the soil’ and noted film director Singeetham Srinivas Rao, who breathed his last at the age of 94 on Saturday in Chennai.

Singeetham is known for his acclaimed films with leading actor Kamal Haasan like ‘Apoorva Sahodarargal’ (‘Vichitra Sodarulu’ in Telugu), ‘Michael Madana Kama Rajan’ and not forgetting ‘Pushpaka Vimanam’ which is being hailed as a subdued masterpiece in the film world. His famous Telugu movies are ‘Aditya 369’, ‘Bhairava Dweepam’ and ‘Rajahamsa’.

Born in Udayagiri town, Singeetham studied up to SSC at Althuri Rami Reddy Government High School. He later migrated to Chennai in search of livelihood and made a promising career in the tinsel town.

However, his family members also migrated to Nellore and other places in subsequent years, hence his roots with Udayagiri became disconnected in recent years.

Meanwhile, Udayagiri MLA Kakarla Suresh paid rich tributes to the departed soul and recalled his contribution in bringing Telugu cinema to global platforms.
