The Pakistan Cricket Board on Monday fined a 23-year-old man PKR 20 million ($72,000) for a controversial social media post criticizing the presence of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz at the PSL opener during the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Maryam is the daughter of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the niece of incumbent Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.“Why is she treated like a queen at the Lords?” Naseem posted a link to Maryam before deleting the post.Basit said it was thanks to PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi that Naseem’s career was saved. He argued that Naqvi is not advised to impose a ban on the pacer, who has played 20 Tests, 34 ODIs and 37 T20Is so far.

Inside the Pakistani camp What is Naqvi’s problem “Naseem Shah is very lucky. This is the latest news, I am telling you that he has been banned for 2 years. You are talking about the committee, he said that. Credit goes to Mohsin Naqvi. He said no, no ban was imposed, you are fine – it is his future. He can make money, but from someone’s career. Nahi khelna is a very happy story. He faced a two-year ban by Mohsin Naqvi.“When you sign the central contract, all the clauses are written on it. Why don’t you read them at that time? And why do you send them to your manager at that time? The mistake is – whether you tell the manager or Naseem Shah. Otherwise it would be a 2-year ban. Is 2 years too much? (When the players sign the central contract, they say that all these clauses were clearly mentioned, they are clearly mentioned.) Why didn’t you do it. It was Naseem Shah and two years is a long time.Naseem was issued a show-cause notice on March 27, immediately after Maryam visited the Gaddafi Stadium as the chief guest for the PSL opener. The post was quickly deleted and it was claimed that the account had been hacked, but the PCB did not accept the explanation. The board said Naseem issued an unconditional apology for his conduct.“Naseem’s response was reviewed by the committee and after evaluating everything, it was found that Naseem violated various clauses of his central contract and he was fined PKR 2 million,” the PCB said.
