Almost two weeks after the tragic incident in the Konni Elephant camp, where a four -year -old boy lost his life, when he collapsed the concrete pole, four forest officials who were suspended in connection with the case were returned.
Ayush Kumar Kori, a divisional forest officer in Konno, said that officials were assigned to the Fast Response Team. “The proposal of fees was prepared against these officers and the next steps will be based on the findings of the ongoing investigation,” he said.
These four officials, together with the forest official of the section, were suspended from service to the Directive of the Minister of Forest Ak Sasendran. The forest officer, who is in charge of the elephant training camp, was also transferred after the incident.
Official sources attributed the abolition of suspension to the acute lack of staff needed to deal with the growing incidents of the human and tistical life in the region. Initial disciplinary measures were based on an interim report on the investigation that pointed to serious outages, including the removal of dilapidated concrete poles and lack of any structural force assessment.
The victim, Abhiram, a four -year -old boy from Kadampanad near Adoor, visited the camp with his family when an accident occurred. According to reports, he played near the concrete pole with a high altitude when he suddenly collapsed and injured him. Although he was hurried to the nearby hospital and later moved to another Pathanamit facility, Abhiram succumbed to his injury.
Konni Elephant Camp, which was temporarily closed after the tragedy, reopened 1 May after a complex security audit. As a preventive measure, the security inspection in Adavi, a popular destination of ecological tourism in the area, was also carried out. During the audit, several trees were restricted that pose safety risks.
