On Friday, two suspected Maoists who allegedly destroyed the cameras installed by the forest department near Upper Bhavani were produced before the district magistrate.

The accused, identified as Soman alias Akbar and Santhosh alias Ravi, were among four persons who were part of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) accused of destroying cameras installed by the forest department in the Upper Bhavani area in 2017. Two other accused in the case, Vikram Gowda and Manivasakan, were killed by police in Kartaka. in the meantime.
Soman and Santhosh were booked under sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act as well as theft, trespassing, damage to public property and intimidation by the Manjoor police. When Soman was arraigned, he raised slogans that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MKStalin had no right to speak against fascism when he refused to criticize the government for using the UAPA to detain political prisoners indefinitely.
They were brought from Thrissur Central Jail in connection with the case and produced before District Magistrate N. Muralidharan. The judge scheduled the next hearing in the case for November 6.
