Two girls, who were sports trainees staying at a hostel, were found dead in a room in Kollam on Thursday (January 15, 2026), police said.
According to the police, one of the two girls was an athletic trainee studying in Plus two, while the other girl was a kabaddi player and a class 10 student.
The incident came to light around five in the morning when fellow inmates in the hostel noticed that the duo had not reported for morning practice.
When repeated knocks on the door went unanswered, the hostel authorities broke open the door and found both the girls dead in the room, police said.
Police said one girl was staying in a different room but had spent the night in the room of another deceased girl on Wednesday (January 14, 2026). Both were seen early in the morning by other inmates of the hostel, police added.
The Kollam East police have launched an investigation into the incident.
The cause of death is yet to be determined and no note could be obtained from the room, police officials said.
Police will record the statements of other athletes in the hostel, their coaches and relatives, the official said.
The bodies will be handed over to relatives after post-mortem, police added.
