A teacher and student of Kodakara-based Sahrdaya Institute of Management Studies sustained serious injuries after the bus they were traveling in overturned near Kallambalam on Saturday (January 17, 2026).
Several other students of the institute suffered minor injuries.
Noyal Wilson, a faculty member, and student Christo Paul, both seriously injured in the accident, are being treated at a private hospital.
Forty-one students and two teachers of the institute were on their way to Vizhinjam International Port as part of a study tour. They left Kodakara in Thrissur district around 9.15 pm on Friday (January 16, 2026). The accident reportedly took place around 3.30 am on Saturday (January 17, 2026) on a service road along the National Highway stretch near Kallambalam. The bus fell on its side. The vehicle is believed to have struck a fence on the road, which was on high ground at that location, and overturned into the grounds of a nearby building.
Local people, the police and the Fire Rescue Department started quick rescue operations and took the injured to nearby hospitals. By evening, all the passengers except Mr. Wilson and Mr. Paul had been released and were on their way back to Kodakara, college officials told The Hindu.
