Two persons arrested in Tiruvannamalai for slapping SI woman

An ex-army man and his friend were arrested by the Kannamangalam police near Arani town in Tiruvannamalai on Tuesday for slapping a sub-inspector at a police station.

The arrested persons were identified as S. Vasu (42), a resident of Kil Pallipattu village in Vellore, and his friend B. Kumaraguru (28), a taxi driver. Initial investigations revealed that Vasu was serving in the army before he voluntarily retired from service a few months ago. He returned to his native village to engage in agriculture.

Police said he along with his friend Kumaraguru Vasu allegedly blocked several government buses near the toll plaza at Vallam village on the Chittoor – Cuddalore Road in a drunken state. Police said the bus crew alerted the Kannamangalam police, who secured the couple from the spot.

During the investigation at the police station by a team of police personnel including Sub-Inspector S. Kavith, Vasu slapped the Sub-Inspector. Police said other officers overpowered him. A case has been registered. They were later lodged in the Vellore Central Jail. A probe is underway.
