Two people arrested for illegal sale of alcohol

Nemili police arrested two persons for illegally selling bottles of Tasmac liquor near Arakkonam town in Ranipet on Tuesday.

Police said the arrested persons were identified as G. Rajendran (70) and his accomplice K. Anjalai (51). They are residents of Keel Venkatapuram village near Nemili town. Initial investigations revealed that the district police had formed special teams after receiving several complaints of illegal sale of liquor, especially before the opening of shops in Nemili town and nearby villages.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Jaffer Siddique, Deputy SP (Arakkonam Sub-Division), was on patrol when they nabbed the couple who were carrying two big bags.

Police said the team checked the bag and found liquor bottles sold at Tasmac outlets. The couple told the police that they were illegally selling liquor bottles at a higher margin, at least ₹30. A case has been registered and the arrested persons have been lodged in Vellore Central Jail. A probe is underway.
